As a child I loved to sit and draw for hours. At senior school, Inverness Royal Academy, my art teacher was both scary and inspiring and I loved the time we spent in his classroom. I regretfully put off painting until later in life when, encouraged by my family, I started to paint seriously and now it is a passion.
Discovering the medium of oils was a real joy. I love the freedom they give. I go on annual artist retreats to the West coast of Scotland, Orkney and France.
Most of my paintings are responses to the Highlands and islands of Scotland, an attempt to set down in paint what it is I love about my surroundings. I am also a tulip addict and have a love of cats as well. Other subjects I can’t ignore are bowls of pears and French market fish.
I am a member of the Redcastle Art Group and Inverness Art Society. I am fortunate to have been tutored by the artist Allan Macdonald.
I opened my studio in 2009 and am open by appointment.
